AKHNATON

Multi-Talented emcee/producer, Akhnaton is one of those few musicians willing to continuously push the envelope and explore the realm that lies just beyond where most artists dare to go.
His music is an often fearless exploration of where anologue confronts digital, sometimes dense and heavy on the soul, sometimes stripped down to reveal a beautiful and subtle acoustic world.

Akhnaton has been producing music since the late nineties, and was a member of the experimental hip-hop/rock group Electron, alongside well-renown artists Bravestarr and Kanif. The crew gained mass recognition with their 1999 independent release 'African Werewolf in Japan'.

After travelling extensively throughout Southern Africa, studying indigenous instruments and perfecting his craft, Akhnaton recently made a massive come back, rejoining fellow group members at Iapetus, and in 2009 producing hit singles on Robo the Technician's debut album such as 'Laser Weapons' and 'Not In Vain'.

Currently putting finishing touches on his album, Akhnaton is also heavily involved in several upcoming Iapetus releases, such as the anticipated Witchcraft album, the Blakrok project and Hymphatic Thabs' highly awaited fourth offering.

A warm and intricate mixture of old school hip-hop sampling, sci-fi synthesizers and subtle acoustic guitars, his debut album will be dropping soon...

ALKA

Alkabulan has been on the SA hiphop scene since the dispersion of Pangea,
With one foot planted firmly in the percussive rhythms of southern Africa, and the other on the pulse of the Eurocentric  triphop/electro sound, his music exists in a realm of its own.

Alka initially stepped onto the scene as one of the founding members of Electron, a 90's hiphop crew that gained a strong fanbase successfully fusing rock and hiphop. With his trademark conceptual lyrics that explored mythology, African sciences, street life and islamic mysticism, Alkabulan's lyrics challenged the boundaries of the dominant ideologies so often found in conventional hip-hop.

Since then he has rocked many mic’s as both a solo artist and with various live bands, such as Universal Thought, Cyclone Wizards, Dr Badela, 7th Son and Spindle Sect, currently based in the UK.
Over the years Alka has also shared the stage with the likes of Black Thought (The Roots, US), Grand Master Shorty Skilz, Jeru the Damaja (US), Tumi (from the Volume), Robo the Technician, Dead Prez (US), Max Normal and Tha Hymphatic Thabs to name a few.

An active member of hip-hop label Iapetus Productions,  Alkabulan added his distinct sound to
Tha Hymphatic Thabs' classic album "Age of Horus" (2007) as well as Robo the Technicians' debut (2009), where his low slung driving basslines gave Robo one of his most popular songs, Rokon.

He is most often found behind the mixing desk of the 70's scifi spaceroom that is Iapetus studios, where he assists with the recording and mixing on various projects.

His album is expected to drop early 2013.

SOTHEMBA THA DISLOYAL MEMBER

Sothemba tha Disloyal Member...  master strategist and megamind at Iapetus, has been on the local hiphop scene since the early nineties
Born in Exile in Zim in the late 70's Sothemba returned to South Africa in 95, settling in yeoville where his musical journey truly began.
Teaming up with long standing partner Justo slash Native fireworks slash Express gundalogik, he has been known under several guises over the years, at some point a Y fm regular with his crew ‘Soul Material’, alongside Mischif and Justo

By ‘98 during daily cypher sessions at the Berea basketball courts he had met several other young mc's who would later go on to change the face of south African hip-hop

BMP (BaseMentalPlatform) was a (under) ground breaking crew from yeoville, at a time that saw other supergroups and MC’s emerge from the neighborhood, such as Cashless Society, Audio Visual, Hymphatic Thabs and Witchcraft.
Their independent release of their first project in '97 was the first of its kind on the local scene, as the 9 man crew’s energy and unconformed mindset gave hip-hop heads one of SA’s long standing classics

Their follow up album, Experimental Platauexs was a low-fi collage of materials from the crew, featuring several remixes by top producers such as Gemini, as well as the headbanger "KlapKop" produced by sampletologist Kanif, with a video that received heavy rotation on sabc.

In 2007 Sothemba came together with Kanif and ShortySkillz to establish Iapetus, besides being behind the scenes, he has also put his bass heavy touch to Robo’s award nominated album as well as Zetina Mosia upcoming release "The Roundabout"
He is currently working on the much awaited debut from Influx with 70's funk cadet, Express Gundalogik
