ROBO THE TECHNICIAN

BIO

"Robo is the illest!! Probably the most respected underground MC in the scene.
...with his debut album out, he's here to show us all how to MC"

- Hype Magazine. Aug/Sept 2009

Robo the Technician was one of South Africa's dopest and long standing emcee's.  On the scene for close to 2 decades, he appeared on numerous projects, performed with some of the giants of the  hip-hop genre and created a lifelong legacy for his music.

Born Themba Ngwenya, in Soweto, in the late 70's, at the height of the political struggle in South Africa, during a  government declared state of emergency: His music is an honest philosophical meditation, dense with social commentary reflecting on the inevitabilities that face township life, and the machinery that keep such systems in place.

Robo started out in the early nineties, at the birth of the South African hip-hop movement, at a now infamous Hip-Hop venue in Johannesburg,  Le Club.
In his rhymes Robo  took apart and reassembled the stereotypical take on the 'township', with a plethora of topics ranging from the use of laser weaponry in Iraq to the results of the economic grip of the IMF over Africa.
His debut album 'Robo The Technician' quickly became a 'must have'  amongst concious Hip-Hop heads all over the world.

His passing in Oct 2013 left the S.A Hip-Hop community and the Hip-Hop comminity at large in shock. Soon after completing the recording of his second album, the loss happened at a time when most thought he was reaching the pinnacle of his career as a musician.

The album, to be released post-humously late 2018 shall be the last reflections of an artist many refered to as the MasterteacherMC.
